The MentalFit Philosophy

MentalFit Personal Training takes a therapy-informed approach to personal training. What does that mean? Spending years working with individuals trying to overcome addiction, I am aware of the challenges people encounter making big lifestyle changes, and the emotional struggles experienced when there are setbacks. People make the decision to start exercising for many different reasons; aesthetic reasons (losing weight; gaining muscle), health concerns, or as a supplemental treatment for mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Whatever the reason, there will be obstacles to creating new patterns of behavior. MentalFit Personal Training combines individual personal training with 1-on-1 coaching to teach the skills necessary to overcome the mental challenges and emotion struggles that come with change.

MentalFit Personal Training is not therapy, or a replacement for therapy; it is meant to supplement therapy.

Hi! My name is Nick. Born and raised in Iowa, I moved to Las Vegas in 2011. Since graduating with my Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa in 2005, I have been working in the field of addictions treatment as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. In my professional career, I quickly became aware of the benefits of exercise on mental and emotional wellbeing. Being an exercise and fitness enthusiast myself, I can attest to those benefits firsthand. In 2022, I became an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Nutrition Coach with the intent of combining my passion for fitness with my experience in counseling individuals to believe that change is possible and within reach.

This is MentalFit Personal Training.
